for OHP) |
 |
Introduction of body-part nouns
(*This part can be skipped if students have already learned the vocabulary
for the body parts.)
The instructor introduces body-part nouns with gesture.

あたま、かお、め、て…
(Pointing at each part) |
Students stand up and practice the words
with the teacher. After students become familiar with the body-part
nouns, the instructor calls out body-part nouns and students point
the parts they hear. The instructor may speed up the pace, as students
become familiar with the words. Then, the instructor points his/her
body parts, and students say the nouns the instructor points. After
some practices, the instructor asks the students to take turns to
play the role of the instructor and do the same thing.
The instructor gives students a handout for body-part nouns with a
drawing or photo. Students label the body-part nouns on the handout.
The instructor asks some volunteers to come up to the front and label
the nouns on the OHP sheet so that everyone can check their spelling.
Describing physical appearance
The instructor shows some pictures to introduce how to describe physical
appearance, such as かみがみじかいです, めがおおきいです.
Students repeat.
The instructor shows some more pictures (from magazines, etc.) of
famous people, such as actors, actresses, singers, and teachers in
the school. The instructor places all the pictures on the board, and
asks students some yes/no questions.

Describing Deai students' physical appearance
Using Deai photo sheets (MY-P01
and MY-D02), the instructor
describes physical appearance of みずしまゆうand
her family members as examples.

Teacher : |
ゆうさんは かみが みじかいです。(Showing
MY-P01) |
|
ゆうさんの おかあさんは せが たかいです。(Showing
MY-D02) |
The students repeat the sentences. Then
the instructor turns the photo sheets back and asks the students how
they look.
Teacher : |
ゆうさんは どんなひとですか。 |
Student : |
ゆうさんは かみが みじかいです。 |
Teacher : |
そうですね。(The
instructor shows the photo again.) |
The instructor asks about other family
members in the same way (Using MY-P06
and MY-P08).
Students work in groups. They choose some photos from the photo set
(handy version) and describe the physical appearance of their assigned
Deai students and their family members. (The instructor may choose
photos beforehand: OK-P08, OK-P09, SM-P08,
TS-P07, TS-P08, TS-P09, YK-P06, YK-P07, YT-P10, YT-P11, YY-P08, YY-P09,
YY-P10.) Each group comes up to the
front and presents their descriptions with big photo sheets to the
class. The students who are listening take notes. After the presentation,
the members of the group turn the photo sheets back and ask some questions
about people's physical appearance. The students who were listening
answer the questions from their notes.

a) Song
As is commonly used, ♪あたま、かた、ひざ…(♪Head
shoulder knees and toes…) can be used.
♪あたま かた ひざ あし ひざ あし
あたま かた ひざ あし ひざ あし
めと みみと はなと くち
あたま かた ひざ あし ひざ あし
(The instructor may create his/her own song with other nouns with
the same rhythm.)
b) Drawing picture activity
The instructor shows a model first. The instructor describes one of
his/her own family members twice. On the second time, the instructor
draws a picture of the family member as s/he states. Students work
with partners. One of them describes one of his/her family members
and the other student draws a picture of the person on a sheet of
paper. After everyone finishes drawing, the instructor puts all the
pictures on the board. The instructor writes numbers for each picture
and asks students to pick one picture and find out who the person
is.

Student1 : |
1ばんはだれですか。 |
Student2 : |
(the student who drew the picture):
1ばんは〜さんのおとうさんです。
〜さんの おとうさんは、せが たかいです。そして あしが ながいです。
めが おおきいです。(etc.) |
(Then
s/he chooses the next picture and asks the same question.) |
Student1 : |
