My mother

My mother, Mihoko, is patient and persevering. She always worked to support the family. She is a great person in the true sense of the word. Now, we kids just want to make sure she has a happy life from now on.
Visiting the Shinto shrine to pay our New Year's respects, I am reading an omikuji (written oracle) with my mother. On New Year's Eve, it's our family custom to go to the Buddhist temple near home to take a turn striking the bell that is tolling out the old year, and then go to a shrine in Hiroo. After praying at the shrine, we buy omikuji. This year I got a "daikichi," foretelling "great good fortune."
