Show the photographs used in Activity 1 and ask the students questions like the following:

何をしていますか。 What activities do the students do during club time?
Look at the expressions on their faces, what moods or emotions do you see?
How do you think the students feel about their club?
What kind of mood or character predominates?
Why do you suppose Takayuki joined this football club?
What does Takayuki think about the American football club?
How do his coach and friends in the football club influence him?

Encourage students to exchange ideas and opinions in a brainstorming session.

Distribute Worksheet #2. Students answer each question, referring to the "My Story" text and Reference materials, and their own ideas and opinions. (It is not necessary to use all the Reference materials. Students will notice different things from the different reference materials. The teacher should select and distribute materials depending on the situation and time available. See "Notes" below.)

When the students finish their worksheets, break them up into groups of three or four to exchange ideas.

Each group chooses one person as recorder then summarizes the ideas of the group. Students present the results of their discussion to the class.

The teacher records the opinions presented on the blackboard using Japanese that matches the level of the students.

Students record the opinions that emerged from the class, referring to the blackboard to revise their own answers to the worksheet, then turn in the completed version at the end of class.
