Commuting to school
通学
つうがく

Public high schools are usually located relatively close by, so most students commute by bus, bicycle, or on foot. Those who attend private schools, however, often commune from considerable distance, some changing trains more than once. Driver's licenses cannot be obtained until the age of 18, so almost no students drive to school (few are driven to school by car). Students can obtain discounts on commuter train or bus passes by showing their student ID or a certificate from the school. Some schools allow students to commute by scooter for which they can obtain a license once they are sixteen years old.
