My high school town: Shibecha

The seasons are very clearly defined in Shibecha, and I love watching them change. Spring is a time of gentle sunshine and bright green foliage; in summer the sun is strong and the leaves turn dark green. In autumn, the leaves change to colorful tints of red and yellow under clear blue skies, and in winter, the whole world is silver, cloaked in snow and ice.

[Bottom left] This is a winter landscape near the Kushiro River that flows near our school. The steamy mist that rises off the river, which we call "kearashi," can often be seen on clear but cold days. The mist rises when cold, dry air blows over the relatively warmer surface of the water.
