Overview:
Students complete the diagram of human relationships in Worksheet #1 by using the photographs and captions on photo sheets TS-P07, TS-P10, TS-P11, TS-P12, TS-D10. In Japanese, students discuss the human relationships between Shun’ichi and the people around him. They consider how they influence each other.

Show the students photographs TS-P07 and TS-P10, ask questions (examples follow) to review the information about Tamaki Shun’ichi’s family. (This activity assumes that students have studied Shun’ichi’s family using the “Family” Lesson Plan.)

これは、だれの家族ですか。 Whose family is this?
何人家族ですか。 How many people are in this family? [How many members does this family have?]
だれがいますか。 Who is in the picture?
ここはどこでしょう。 Where was this picture taken?
この人たちはだれですか。 Who are these people?

Show the TS-P11 (composite of 3) photograph of Shun’ichi’s school friends. Have the students guess what they have in common with Shun’ichi. Show TS-D10 then explain that they are members of the school folk performing arts club to which Shun’ichi belongs.

この人たちは、だれでしょう。 Who are these people?
どんな友だちだと思いますか。 What do they have in common with Shun’ichi?
俊一くんはこの人たちといっしょに何をするでしょう。 What do Shun’ichi and these people do together?
俊一くんより年上でしょうか。年下でしょうか。 Are they older than Shun’ichi? Are they younger?

Show photograph TS-P12 (composite of 6) of the members of Shun’ichi’s taiko drum ensemble, have the students try to imagine what they share with Shun’ichi then introduce the members of the taiko ensemble.

この人たちはだれでしょう。 Who are these people?
どんな友だちだと思いますか。 What do they have in common with Shun’ichi?
俊一くんは、この人たちと、どんなことをいっしょにするでしょう。 What do Shun’ichi and these people do together?
俊一くんより年上でしょうか。年下でしょうか。 Are they older than Shun’ichi? Are they younger?
俊一くんは、この人たちから、どんな影響を受けたでしょう。 How was Shun’ichi influenced by these people?
俊一くんは、この人たちのことを、どう思っているでしょう。 What does Shun’ichi think of these people?

Distribute copies of Worksheet #1(“Shun’ichi to mawari no hitobito”) and the captions and text of My Story for Tamaki Shun’ichi. Students to try to fill in the blanks on the worksheet, referring to the pictures and names of the people around Shun’ichi.

俊一くんのまわりにはどんな人がいますか。 What kind of people surround Shun’ichi?
どんな関係ですか。 How are they related to him?
ワークシートのまる(○)の中に写真を切り取っていれましょう。 Cut out the pictures from the second page of Worksheet #1 and paste them in the appropriate places.
四角(□)の中に名前を書いて入れましょう。 Write the names of each person in the squares.

When Worksheet #1 has been completed, distribute Worksheet #2 (“Shun’ichi to mawari no hitobito no kankei”). While the students are working on the worksheet, help them think about the relationships between Shun’ichi and those around him.
