搾乳機をつける前に、糞などで汚れた牛のおっぱいを雑巾でふいているところです。おっぱいをふいてやると、乳の出を促すホルモンが分泌されて、約1分後に乳が出てきます。搾乳機はうまくつけないと、ゴミや空気が入ってしまって乳がしぼれません。最近ようやく、うまくつけられるようになってきました。乳しぼりの手伝いのほかは、牛の糞をくまでのような道具でベルトコンベアに入れることもわたしの仕事です。

Weekend home-stay: My host family
Here I am cleaning the manure or other dirt from the cow's teats before we attach the milking machines. Cleaning the cow's teats stimulates excretion of the hormone that makes the milk flow, and about one minute later, the milk starts flowing. If you don't put the milking machine on properly, dirt or air can get in, and the milk won't come as it should. Only recently did I finally get the knack of it. One of my other jobs is clearing away the cow manure with a pitchfork and putting it on a conveyor belt that carries it out of the barn.
