Tonight’s dinner is curry rice, sauteed vegetables, a simmered dish of hijiki seaweed, konnyaku, and soy beans, and salt-pickled Chinese-cabbage. Curry rice is one of my favorite dishes.
We have dinner around seven o’clock. When my father gets home late, my mother, Tetsu, and I eat first.
Today my father is home early, so we are having dinner together.
It is fun when we can eat all together.

Curry rice is the Japanese version of the Indian dish made with spice-flavored vegetables and meat or seafood, poured over rice. Though Indian curry is usually very spicy, Japanese curry is generally made from a handily packaged prepared paste roux with a mild flavor, and is especially popular among children and young adults. Related dishes include curry udon and deep-fried buns stuffed with curry.
