Students in the majority of junior high and high schools are required to wear seifuku (uniforms). Black and navy are the most common colors. Boys' uniforms usually consist of a of a jacket with stand-up collar or blazer worn over a dress shirt, and trousers. Girls' uniforms consist of a blazer or sailor jacket, worn over a blouse, and a skirt. Vests and sweaters are worn for warmth in the winter. Schools in most of the country have different uniforms for summer and winter and many schools specify that summer uniforms should be worn from June 1 to the end of September. In addition, many schools have regulation gym clothes, school bags, shoes, socks, winter coats, indoor shoes, etc.
