Overview:
Students study scenes from the lives at school of the Deai students’ and describe them in Japanese. Students describe the characteristics of their own school in Japanese. They observe how each school’s environment, organization, etc., are factors shaping the patterns of student behavior and character unique to that school. Students produce a brochure or website to introduce the students’ own school, in Japanese.

45 minutes/session x 5 sessions
(More than five class period may be necessary depending on the circumstances.)

   
What Do You Do at School? (45 minutes)
Students look at the photographs of scenes from Mizushima Yu’s life at school and study the various activities and situations. They determine what kinds of things Yu does at school every day (classes, free time, clubs, etc.) and describe them in Japanese.

The Seven Deai Students’ Schools (45 minutes)
Students study scenes from the lives at school of the six Deai students’ (other than Yu) and describe them in Japanese. They read the Deai students’ descriptions of their own schools and guess the high school referred to in the passage.
