Activity 5: Let's Find Out by Mail
Date: Country: Author(copyright): Themes:
2001/11 Japan The Japan Forum School and Education
Overview:
Students list things to ask Japanese high school students about club activities and send their questions in letters or e-mail. Students write a short reflection about what they have discovered during this process and their impressions of Japanese high school clubs.

Worksheets and other materials:
Worksheet #6

Based on the discussion from Activity 4, students decide (brainstorm or list) questions or inquiries they have about Japanese clubs.

Suggest students ask Japanese high school students directly.

Assign pen pals. Choose from a list or other method.

Distribute Worksheet #6. Students list what they want to ask. Depending on the students' level, the teacher may work from English to Japanese.

Students write letters in Japanese based on the questions they listed. Send the letters, and wait for a response. Students record the content of the replies on their worksheets when they receive them.

Students write their impressions of this activity (this may be done in English) and attach it, along with a copy of the letter they wrote and the reply they received, to the worksheet before turning it in.
