Message from the photographer

As second years in high school, we’re at a weird in-between state. We lack the fresh innocence of our first year, as well as the anxiety and excitement of third years diving headlong into college entrance exam preparations. Of the three years in high school, one’s second year is the least interesting. And yet, my friend has continued to photograph those around her, saying, “New discoveries lie in the most ordinary.” She’s radiant as she says that, and I love her for that. Next year, we’ll finally be third years, getting ready for college. We’ll have less time to take photos than we do now, but I still hope to keep at it.

About the subject

She’s been my friend since our first year in high school, and we can talk to each other about everything. I wanted to capture her ever-changing expressions.
