Message from the photographer

I first met her at the after-school photography club of our school. We didn't know anything about each other at all. It's been just recently that we've grown familiar enough with each other that we can be ourselves when we're shooting. I found out a lot of great things about her as we went along. When we shot in the ancient capital of Nara, she said that she was thinking about how filled with peace our environment was. Like with "peace," I feel like she thinks about things other people don't really think about. Right now, she's really into playing cat's cradle with string. I don't know many high school girls whose favorite pastime is cat's cradle, but for some reason it made sense to me when she told me it was hers. Maybe I've come to understand her through our club activities, allowing us to become friends who connect on a deeper level.

About the subject

We met in our school photography club, and got to know each other by taking photos of each other. I decided that I would make her the subject of my photo essay.
