Ryuka
琉歌

General term for short lyric songs traditional to the Amami, Okinawa, Miyako, and Yaeyama island groups. Ryuka are primarily fixed-form verses of thirty syllables, consisting of an upper part with two eight-syllable lines and a lower part with one eight-syllable and one six-syllable line. Unlike the haiku and waka poetic forms, ryuka developed as songs sung with sanshin accompaniment.
