City in southern Hyogo prefecture, western Honshu. A castle town
since the fourteenth century, Himeji is noted for Himeji Castle,
completed in 1610. Major industries are electrical machines, food
processing, steel, and oil refining. Pop: approx. 479,000 (2001).
