Students discuss formal occasions in their own culture and what sort of costume they wear for such occasions. They then compare special occasions or festivities in their own culture and in Japan where the costume plays a significant role.

Required language skills Students are expected to have learned the basic ways to describe what someone is wearing, for example セーターを着ています, ズボンをはいています. Also, they should already be familiar with the structures for comparing two things, like N1とN2はどっちがAdj.ですか, NのほうがAdj.です, and N1とN2はおなじです/ちがいます. Students should have studied "V+masu/masen." If students have learned "kiteimasu," review the difference between "kiteimasu" and "kimasu."
