Cherry Blossom Viewing (Hanami)

The different charms of cherry blossoms during the day and at night!!

2013.04.02

Recently, I went to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Chiyoda. It might be because they bloomed earlier than usual this year, but a lot of the blooms had already fallen when I went on March 31.
This year, I saw the cherry blossoms at Yasukuni Shrine and the Imperial Palace.

I went to see the flowers in the afternoon after seeing a movie. There were food stalls nearby, so I ate some things like corn and okonomiyaki. I stayed there until nighttime, when I got on a boat and looked at the trees at night. Even though the cherry blossom trees were the same ones that I saw during the day, during the night they have a different kind of charm. Seeing things that can only be seen during springtime, like the cherry blossoms bathed in sunlight or lit up and reflected along the river, really relaxed me.

Even though all the cherry blossoms are pink, each one has a slightly different shade that colored the side of the river.
Also, because you could get on the boat and go to other nearby places to see the flowers, it was overflowing with people.

And next year, I definitely want to have a cherry blossom viewing party beneath the trees when they are in full bloom! lol
Next year, I will be twenty and able to drink, so I want to bring food and alcohol, spread out a vinyl sheet, and look at the cherry blossoms while talking with my friends. I want to spend time with my friends from clubs in which I participate, those from my part-time job, and all the people I know!
