What kind of classrooms are there at Sakura Elementary School?
This activity idea was created for use in the training program for elementary school teachers of Japanese in China held in the summer of 2004.

Objectives:
To gain an understanding of classrooms and facilities at a Japanese elementary school by looking at the floor plan and photographs, and make comparisons with one’s own school.
Procedure:
1.
In groups, look at diagrams and photographs of Sakura Elementary School and discuss what kind of facilities there are and what they are used for (using native language).

Each group presents what they discussed. Learn classroom names.
「何の教室?」
“What kind of classroom is this?”
「何をするところ?」
“What do they use it for?”

Teachers’ office
School kitchen
Infirmary
Library
Art room
Home economics room
Computer room
Grade _ Class _

3.
Discuss the differences from and similarities to one’s own school.
「わたしの学校(さくら小学校)には~がある/ない」
“My school (Sakura Elementary School) has _____/ does not have _____.”
