おばあちゃんの家の居間で。美香ちゃんが家族においしいお茶をいれてくれる。家族が自然にここに集まる。家族のだんらんの場所。
The living room (ocha no ma) in her grandmother's house is where the family congregates and spends time together. Mika pours me a delicious cup of tea.
兄と妹がいっしょにいると、突然「たたきあい」が始まる。けんかをしているのではなくて、スキンシップのようなもの。
Rather than a sibling quarrel, you might say this is just one aspect of the sister-brother "skinship"—the emotional bond that forms through physical contact. Their bouts of beating on each other always begin suddenly.
美香ちゃんが真剣に漫画をかいている。このとき、美香ちゃんは一番かがやいて見える。
Immersed in drawing manga, Mika's face in profile is intensely focused, and at that instant she really shines.
美香ちゃんのお母さんは、リサイクルショップ、「だるま屋」の店長さん。いつもお客さんが大勢いて、にぎやかだ。美香ちゃんはお母さんを手伝って、荷物運びをしたり、店員さんになったりする。
Darumaya, the used goods store that her mother manages, is always bustling with customers. Mika helps move parcels and tends the shop.
美香ちゃんとご両親とお兄さん（わたしの恋人）。写真をとったとき、まわりに人がいたので、美香ちゃんははずかしそうだった。

   わたしは今、定時制高校に通っています。中学校を卒業するとき、漫画家になりたいという夢をもっていました。だから、芸術系の高校に行きたかったのですが、そのための学力が足りませんでした。実は、中学校のとき、わたしは、不登校の生徒だったのです。不登校の生徒でも入学できる定時制高校に決めました。今から考えると、これは、とてもいい選択でした。この高校に来たおかげで、わたしは今、とても充実した高校生活をしています。
   わたしの高校生活は、とても充実しています。毎日毎日、自分で「充実している」と感じています。いい友だちもたくさんいるし、先生やクラブの先輩もすごくおもしろい人たちばかりです。部活は、美術部と文芸部に入っていて、自分の作品をかくのが楽しくて楽しくて。わたしは今青春時代のまん中にいて、自分のエネルギーを完全にもやしている感じがします。定時制だから、朝早く学校に行かなくてもいいのです。わたしは、朝早く起きるのが苦手ですから、それもこの学校が気に入っているところです。とにかく、わたしは、今の高校生活に満足しています。

Right now, I am attending night high school. Since I dream of becoming a manga artist someday, when it came time to enter high school, I originally had a school for the arts in mind. But due to the circumstances of my life up through junior high and my problems attending school, I was behind in my studies. I therefore decided on a school that a student with extended absences like me could get into—the school I am currently attending. When I think about it, the reason I am able to live every day to the fullest now is because I took those circumstances into account when reaching my decision. I think it was a good choice for me in the end.
      I lead an incredibly full life in high school now. So much so, that I often stop to wonder at it. I've made loads of friends with similar interests, and I'm a member of both the fine arts and literature clubs. The teachers and senior students are really interesting, and I just love doing manga in that environment. I'm like a girl on fire, at the height of youth. Since my school is a night school, I go to school in the evenings. I love being able to start school later than a regular high school because I'm not a morning person. That's the sort of life I lead in high school. It's fun, anyway. That's all.
