My Thoughts and Reflections
Deai with Okinawa and Japan
What was particularly memorable or thought-provoking for you about the people you met and the places you saw on Okinawa and Izena Island and through the homestay and school visitation program in Tokyo/Yokohama? Please be as specific as possible.
(1) Okinawa and Izena Island

On Izena Island the thing that was most memorable was the scenery.
I like that everything was so green, in Las Vegas it is all desert so you don't see green that much. The ocean was also very beautiful. I really wanted to swim but couldn't. On Okinawa I liked the Shisa. Everywhere you went Shisa were at the door. The food was also delicious.

(2) Homestay

Kensuke's Mom was very friendly and nice. I was very thankful that she took me to eat Sushi. I was also grateful that she prepared food for me when I was there. Kensuke's brother and sister were also very nice.

(3) School visitation

I found it different that the teacher comes to the student because here in Las Vegas the students move around to different classrooms. Also students go to School for larger time than here.

(4) Other

I LOVE THE FOOD IN JAPAN- ESPECIALLY SUSHI!!!!

Deai with Project Members and the Joint Project
(1) The Photo Essay Cafe, Okinawa Project brought you together with high school students from Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and the United States. You stayed with them on Izena Island, went out to do research for the project with them, and created the photo essay for the website with them. What were your impressions of this experience meeting them and working with them on a joint project? Please be as specific as possible

I was glad to meet them and learn about the way they live, but I was there more for getting to know the Japanese Culture and Japan. For example, I really enjoyed that Japanese people are very polite. Whenever I had a question or a problem they were happy to help. Also Japanese people are very friendly. It was easy to make friends with the other participants because they were eager to meet new people. I was amazed that Japan is so clean. Usually, where I am from you see trash on the streets but in Japan there is hardly any. The whole time I was in Japan I felt very safe. One day Kensuke and I were out late and had to walk and ride the train home. During that time nothing happened to us. That was strange for me because here, in Las Vegas, when my friends and I are out late something bad usually happens like a fight or something like that. It was also very different that on the escalators people move to the left so others can walk on the right side. In America nobody does that but they should.

(2) What were some of the problems you encountered when engaged in activities either with the whole group or with your own project group? What did you think about those problems? How did you try to resolve those problems? (Please also tell us if they couldn't be solved or if you still don't understand what the problem was.)

Our group didn't have problems in completing the work maybe the only problem was communication because I don't speak fluent Japanese. We solved the problem with the help of Yuri-Chan's translating.

(3) What was especially enjoyable, fun, and memorable about the time spent and the work done together with the whole group and your project group?

I enjoyed the interviews because it was fun listening to what others had to say. I also liked being with the group because we all became friends as time passed.

(4) Do you think that you have changed in some way since participating in this project? If you think you have, in what way? Was there some particular experience or event that you think caused you to change? If so, please write about that as well.

The project taught me how other people live and how their culture is like.
Because of that I would like to travel to other places to find out how people are living and what their culture is like.

(6) Please write down any other thoughts, impressions, or ideas you have as a result of your participation in this project.

I really enjoyed Japan and am considering moving to Japan in the future maybe I can teach Spanish or English in Japan. If I don't do that I will definitely go back to visit.
