(Shibuya Ku). One of the 23 wards of Tokyo. Although Shibuya is primarily a residential area, the district near Shibuya Station has become one of the major commercial and amusement centers of Tokyo. With its many department stores, movie houses, and restaurants, this district is particularly popular among Japanese young people. Located in Shibuya are the Meiji Shrine, the Yoyogi National Stadium, and the NHK Broadcasting Center. Pop: Approx. 192,000 (2001).
