Kushiro Wetlands
釧路湿原
くしろ しつげん

Located in eastern Hokkaido. Japan's largest marsh, it extends across the Kushiro Plain. The Kushiro River and other waterways snake through the plain. This almost virgin, wilderness wetlands is the home of an abundance of wildlife. It is known as the habitat of the tancho-zuru crane, a specially protected species.
