アメリカ村
あめりかむら

A popular shopping district in Osaka usually referred to as "Ame-mura." Thirty years ago this district was a mixed area of department store warehouses and private homes. It came to be known as the American Village when some of the unused warehouses were opened to sell jeans and other products imported from the United States. Today there are around 800 shops, selling imported goods and clothing as well as operating as restaurants. The American Village has become a focal point of young culture attracting as many as 200,000 visitors on weekends and holidays.
