であいキットは特定の日本語学習レベルに合わせて作った日本語教材ではありません。単なる素材です。海外だけでなく、日本で使われる可能性も含まれています。また、日本語だけでなく社会科で使われることも想定しています。ですから、日本語は主人公の高校生たちがふだん話したり書いたりすることばに、なるべく近いものにしてあります。日本語の授業で使う場合は、学習者のレベルに合わせて自由に書きなおしていただくことを前提にしています。ウェブに掲載されているレッスンプランのなかにはそれぞれのプランに合わせてキャプションやマイストーリーの一部を書きなおしているものもあるので、参考にしていただけると思います。また、オーストラリア、クイ―ンズランド大学の加藤久美先生がマイストーリーを中級向けに書きなおしてくださっているほか、同国ニューサウスウェールズ州教育省の日本語アドバイザー矢崎満夫先生が同州のジュニアシラバスとシニアシラバスに合わせて、それぞれキャプションを書きなおしてくださっています。完成したらウェブサイトに掲載する予定です。
一方、キャプションの日本語をそのままうまく使って授業をしている先生もいらっしゃいます。そういう例も、アイディアコーナーで紹介していきたいと思います。
The Japanese in the text passages has not been prepared for different student abilities, because the Deai Kit is not a textbook designed for a specific level of Japanese study. It is simply a resource. It was designed for use both abroad and in Japan, and we hope that it can be employed not only for Japanese language education, but for classes in social studies as well. Therefore, we tried to keep the Japanese as close as possible to the language that the Deai students actually speak and write. We imagined from the beginning that teachers would freely alter the Japanese to match their learners’ ability when using Deai for language classes. For reference, there are also lesson plans provided on the TJF website that rewrite portions of the photo captions and My Story texts. TJF also plans to publish on the website a separate version of all the My Story texts and photo captions aimed at beginning level students of Japanese.
Currently, professor Kato Kumi at Queensland University in Australia, is undertaking the rewriting of My Story texts for beginners, and Mr. Yazaki Mitsuo, the Japanese-language advisor to the Department of Education in New South Wales, is adapting the photo captions to both the junior and senior high school state syllabi in Australia. When complete, these will be made available on the Deai Website as well.
Taking a different tack, some teachers are creating lessons that make skillful use of the Japanese in the photo captions without alteration. We hope to introduce examples of this on the Deai Website’s idea corner.

Captions and My Story texts is too difficult
