Spring is here! On the news, we start seeing regular reports covering Sakura Zensen, Cherry-Blossom Front (a line graph illustrating the forecasted blooming dates). Every year, by referencing this report, I plan my outing for flower viewing. (By Miyuki Chiba, Tokyo)
I'm in the Southern Hemisphere, and the season is now the end of summer. Flower Viewing tends to be considered a Japanese event, but in September, we can enjoy it here too. There is a Japanese garden in Cowra, and they hold Sakura Matsuri Family Fun Day every year. Cowra, located 300km west of Sydney, is also a significant place for Japanese-Australian history. 春が近づいてくると、桜の開花予想とともに、「桜前線」のニュースが始まります。毎年、「桜前線」をチェックしてお花見に行く日を計画しています。（千葉美由紀＠東京）
こちらは南半球、今は夏の終わり。お花見は日本のイベントだと思われがちですが、9月になれば、こちらでもできるんです。カウラという町には日本庭園があり、毎年、桜まつりが催されます。カウラはシドニーから西へ300㎞の町。日豪の歴史にも大変重要な場所です。（西村パーク葉子＠シドニー）
